What is the difference between my agent, the insurance company, and an adjuster?
Your agent is the person who represents you. We at First Financial Insurance act as the intermediary between you and the insurance company. We are not employees of the insurance company, but we act as your voice to the insurance company. In a “direct writer” situation (a company that deals directly with the client without an agent), you have no “voice” as you deal with company employees, and if you don’t like something, you have no recourse.

The insurance company is the organization that actually writes the policy and pays the claims. The insurance company also sets the prices, the underwriting rules, and the coverage offerings.

The adjuster is typically an employee of the insurance company (although sometimes he/she is contracted by the company). This person settles your claims and interprets the policy’s coverages for your claim.

As your agent, we talk to both the company and the adjuster on your behalf. Often, because of our relationship, we can accomplish more than you could on your own. This is the benefit of having a First Financial Insurance Agent as your representative.

Do I need a special ID card when I travel to Canada?
No. Although the Canada card was once required, it has been deemed unnecessary. Your auto policy automatically adjusts to the minimums required in the state or province in which you’re traveling.

What should I do if I have a loss on the weekend or on a holiday?
Unfortunately, a claim can happen at any time. Call 800.544.9940 and you will be put in touch with a First Financial Insurance professional who is on call to assist you.

Does my auto policy cover me while I’m driving a rented car?
Rental car contracts now have clauses that require payment for additional items that your auto policy would not cover, such as loss of use. Additionally, coverage applies only to the person, not any driver. That’s why we now recommend that you purchase the rental insurance. In addition to avoiding the possibility of no coverage, your collision deductible is waived. We strongly urge you to phone us to discuss your situation if you’re not sure what to do.
