Overdraft Privilege: Stay Protected

Opt-In today to continue Overdraft Privilege for card-based transactions. A change to federal regulation (Regulation E) gives you the opportunity to choose to allow or not allow First Financial to authorize ATM and every day debit card transactions if your account has insufficient funds, thus being charged a fee(s).

What you need to know about overdrafts and overdraft fees

An overdraft occurs when you make a purchase and do not have enough money in your checking account to cover the transactions, but First Financial pays it anyways.

First Financial can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:

  • Standard overdraft practices (called Overdraft Privilege) that comes with your account 30 days after account opening.
  • Overdraft protection plans, such as a link to a savings account or a Ready Reserve line of credit, which may be less expensive than our standard overdraft practices. Click here to learn more about these plans.

If you do not Opt-In to Overdraft Privilege or one of our other overdraft options, your ATM and everyday check card transactions will be declined if you attempt to make a transaction without sufficient funds.

  • Opt-In means Overdraft Privilege will cover an ATM or one time debit card point-of-sale transaction and all applicable fees will apply.
  • Opt-Out means an ATM or one time debt card point-of-sale transaction will be declined if funds are not available and will not assess a fee. Your card will be declined in these situations.

What does Overdraft Privilege cover?

If you are enrolled in overdraft privilege, First Financial may authorize and pay up to $500 in overdrafts for checks, ATM transactions, automatic bill payments and every day check card transactions that use your checking account number.*

Is Overdraft Privilege automatic?

Overdrafts are paid at the discretion of First Financial Bank as long as your account remains in good standing. Not all transactions will be authorized or guaranteed. If a transaction is not authorized for Overdraft Privilege, the transaction will be declined.

What fees will be charged if First Financial pays my overdraft?

A $34 fee is assessed each time First Financial pays an overdraft with a maximum of seven per item overdraft fees per business day. Also, if your account remains overdrawn for five or more consecutive business days, First Financial will charge an additional $8 per day.
